How it works
Import, review, close. Every month the same short loop.
Ledger is built around one habit: look at your transactions once a month while they are still fresh. Everything else in the product exists to make that loop short enough that you keep doing it.
Set up your accounts and categories
We start with the accounts you actually use and a chart of accounts shaped to your business. If you are coming from another system, we bring your existing categories over so history still lines up.
Import the exports your bank already gives you
Download the transaction file from each account and import it. Ledger reads the standard formats banks provide, matches columns, and flags anything that overlaps a range you already imported so nothing gets counted twice.
Rules do the repetitive pass
Before anything reaches you, your rules run. The vendors you see every month arrive already categorized, with notes attached. What is left is the handful of transactions that genuinely needed a person.
You approve what posts
The review queue is the whole point. Approve in bulk when a batch is clean, split a transaction across categories when it needs it, or flag one and come back. Nothing enters a report unapproved.
Close the month
Once the queue is empty, the monthly report is ready: income, expenses, category detail, and the comparison against prior months. Ten minutes of review instead of a quarter of reconstruction.
Hand off the year
Twelve closed months make the annual package straightforward. Export the year-end summary with its supporting detail and send it to whoever prepares your taxes.
Getting started
Setup is a conversation, not a download.
We walk through your accounts, build the first round of rules with you, and import enough history that your first monthly report has something to compare against. Most businesses are running their own close within the first month.
